History

Tang Soo Do is a traditional style of Martial Arts developed over 2000 years ago in Korea. The word "Tang" means the Tang Dynasty of China indicated a shared culture between China and Korea. "Soo" means hand but can imply fist, punch, strike or defense and "Do" means way of life or art. Mainly used by the military it was kept secret until the liberation of Korea in the 1940's. Grand Master Jae C. Shin came to The United States in the late 60's to teach Tang Soo Do to Americans. With it's unique characteristics and philosophies it grew rapidly in The United States. The World Tang Soo Do Association was sanctioned in 1982 and now covers the globe and is one of the fastest growing Martial Arts organizations today. Currently there are over 160,000 registered members.
