Region 5 Championships at Flint, Michigan were a lot of fun. Double Dragons studio worked hard to make sure it was a great success. We gathered up who we could at the end for a group picture with Grandmaster Shin!
PRESS RELEASE
The World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) held its 11th World Championship on July 7 and 8, 2006, at the Orange County Convention Center in Anaheim, California, USA.
The Championship drew over 1,400 competitors of all ages from all over the world.
Over 200 WTSDA karate schools (dojangs) participated in the two-day competition where students competed for medals in forms, weapons, sparring and creativity events. Students came from as far away as Africa, the Netherlands, Alaska, and Japan.
Growing larger every year, the WTSDA Championship has become known for its professional but friendly atmosphere, the world class talent of the competitors and for its ability to promote and advance Tang Soo Do, which is a traditional Korean Martial Art.
In addition to the Grand Championship Cups awarded to the adult male and female competitors with the most points overall, this year’s event included a total of 10 championship division cups for youth and adult gup and Black Belt competitors. The Grand Champion Cup Winners this year were:
Noreen Khan, Female, 3rd Degree Black Belt from Huntingdon, Cambs, England and Carlos Gil, Male, 2nd Degree Black Belt from Arecibo, Puerto Rico
The highlight of the Championship for many was the Master’s demonstration and the promotion of the WTSDA’s newest Masters by Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin, Grandmaster of the WTSDA. Or, perhaps it was the fun at Dave and Busters on Saturday evening! Either way, all competitors, family members and guests had a great time.
Carthage Tang Soo Do is proud of their very first black belt. Mr. Dever tested on May 19th, 2006 and is now a 1st Dan.
Great work Mr. Dever!
Everyone who went to the May 19-21 Region 5 event gathered for a picture after returning. Everyone picked up medals or a trophy who participated in the tournament.
